Metallica (album)

Wherever I May Roam is the fifth track on the album Metallica released in 1991 by the heavy metal band Metallica. This track was also implented into the line up of songs in Guitar Hero: Metallica.

Live

The song starts with an electric sitar playing the main riff of the song, before the drums and electric guitars come in. In addition to the use of a sitar, the loud "crack" heard at 0:30 in the song (and then repeatedly throughout the intro) is bassist Jason Newsted playing a 12-string electric bass, as mentioned by the bassist on the Classic Albums: Metallica - Metallica DVD.

The song is performed frequently during the band's live concerts, and was played with the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra (conducted by the late Michael Kamen) on the album S&M.
